Abstract

This paper provides an overview of developments in Primary Health Care (PHC) in the Americas during the 21st century. It draws on a report created in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for the 40th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration(1) and documents from major international health organizations for the post-pandemic period. The report highlights that Primary Health Care is a key proposal for addressing post-pandemic challenges and promoting sustainable development in healthcare systems. These findings support Chile’s efforts to transform its healthcare system towards universal Primary Health Care.
