PRIMARY HEALTH CARE AND THE NEW FAMILY HEALTH MODEL SINCE THE REFORM HISTORICAL CONTEXT AND REGIONAL

Abstract

This paper provides an overview of developments in Primary Health Care (PHC) in the Americas during the 21st century. It draws on a report created in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for the 40th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Declaration⁽¹⁾ and docu­ments from major international health organizations for the post-pandemic period. The report highlights that Primary Health Care is a key proposal for addressing post-pandemic challenges and promoting sustainable development in healthcare systems. These findings support Chile’s efforts to transform its healthcare system towards universal Primary Health Care.
