Abstract

The main viral infections in kidney transplants are analyzed, with special mention of CMV, BK virus and the available therapeutic agents: Valganciclovir, Letermovir, Maribavir. The importance of CMV prophylaxis and the need for COVID vaccination, with boosters, in all transplant patients are emphasized. The lack of availability of antivirals for the BK virus is noted, so in case of infection, the appropriate thing to do is to reduce immunosuppression. Finally, the epidemiological changes in relation to infections related to immigration are pointed out.
